This coffee grows on the Kimel plantation located in the Wahgi Valley Highlands. Established in 1974 by an Australian named Bobby Gibbs, the 1530 acre farm is now cooperatively owned by the region's traditional landowners who primarily come from the Opais tribe. The estate provides housing for its workforce of 432, schooling for the children of the employees, and medical facilities for the families. The coffee is cultivated under shade grown trees such as Albizias and Grevilleas and the farm management focuses on consistent and sound agricultural and processing procedures to ensure high quality coffee crop after crop.
The farm implemented some ecologically friendly practices such as composting the pulp that returns to the fields as organic fertilizer, as well as the recycling of water from the wet processing. The cool mountain climate and rich volcanic soil make this coffee one of the finest coffees produced in Papua New Guinea
